When deciding whether to wait or take action, it’s important to consider how fast your system and the systems around it are changing. Sometimes, the system you want to change is moving faster than the ones it’s connected to. Other times, the connected systems are moving quickly, and you may need to speed up your efforts to keep up. Systems Changes Learning offers a framework called Hub and Spoke that helps change makers manage these different speeds across connected systems.
As an action-oriented practitioner, one of the hardest things to do is not to take action when the timing isn’t right. Talking with a project sponsor about the need to wait can be even tougher. The Hub and Spoke framework helps by offering a more systemic view — recognising that change is almost never isolated. Instead, it’s the result of many interconnected shifts, some that you can control and others that you can’t.
In this workshop, participants work through a case study using the Hub and Spoke method, developed by the System Changes Learning Circle, identifying key elements in complex change scenarios that include other systems that are operating at different speeds.
