This paper argues for the need to explore practices of co-design for systemic transitions. To understand and unravel these practices we developed a preliminary version of a Systemic Co-Design (SCD-) framework. This framework aims to provide an integral way of navigating complex societal challenges towards more regenerative futures. This emerging framework is currently being developed in an iterative manner by the Dutch Expertise network Systemic Co-design (ESC). This network consists of five universities of applied sciences and its societal partners and focuses on transitions towards: 1) a responsible digital society, 2) a healthy citizenry, 3) a sustainable future, and 4) a regenerative educational system. In this paper we present the results of a collective year-long knowledge co-creation process on ingredients that such a framework may comprise. This framework is then used to make sense of a case of educational system change presented by the main author. Through this engagement, we further explore the opportunities and tensions of co-design practices for systemic transitions.
