Contexts of Brazil and Latin America

August 20, 2026 | São Paulo, Brazil

The ESPM hub brings the international RSD15 conversation into dialogue with design research, education and practice in Brazil. The symposium brings together researchers, practitioners, educators, students and local stakeholders interested in systemic design and its application to complex social, economic, technological, cultural and ecological challenges.

This is an opportunity for exchange across regional and international perspectives. This programme is dedicated to conversations about interconnected conditions and work across disciplinary and organisational boundaries grounded in the particular contexts of Brazil and Latin America.

Workshop Wednesdays
August 19 | Symbiotic Design Framework Workshop

From August through October, #RSD15 Workshop Wednesdays are creating a regular rhythm of sharing, experimentation, and conversation across the systemic design community. The series begins Wednesday, August 19, with the Symbiotic Design Framework, facilitated by Gonzalo Raineri. Explore the framework as a way to support a shift from extractive practices toward mutualistic configurations.

RSD workshops are led by expert facilitators from academia and practice and designed as spaces for two-way community knowledge exchange—bringing methods, questions, experiences, and emerging practices into active conversation. As always, the series is pay-what-you-can.

the experience

RSD15-São Paulo brings the international systemic design conversation into dialogue with design research, education and practice in Brazil. The programme is designed as an opportunity for knowledge exchange, regional and international dialogue, and new connections across the systemic design community.

venue

The Joaquim Távora campus is one of ESPM’s two São Paulo campuses and provides teaching, meeting and technology-enabled spaces in the Vila Mariana district. Talks and panels will be livestreamed to the RSD15-RSDX online platform. All sessions will be conducted in English.

the school

Founded in São Paulo in 1951, ESPM has developed from Brazil’s first school of advertising into a multidisciplinary higher-education institution working across communication, business, technology, social sciences and design. Its educational approach connects academic knowledge with professional practice, reflecting its longstanding principle that practice and teaching should inform one another.

the organisers

RSD15–São Paulo is organised by Carla Link Federizzi and Rosana Vasques of ESPM, and Bruno Madureira Ferreira of the University of São Paulo, in collaboration with Amina Pereno of the Systemic Design Lab at Politecnico di Torino.
