This contribution presents the experience of the Systems Design course developed over three academic years within the two-year Master’s Programme in Systemic Design for Communication at ISIA Roma Design. Starting from the macro-theme of Cultural Heritage, the paper questions how Systems Design tools can support students in the transition from a descriptive reading of heritage to the identification of design emergences and new forms of cultural activation. Through the analysis of the phases of the course, systemic maps, collaborative design processes, and a project developed by the students, the contribution observes how cultural heritage can be interpreted as a complex system of relationships, practices, memories, actors, and territories. Finally, the paper discusses the educational value of Cultural Heritage as a plural, relational, and transformative design field, capable of activating processes of learning and design innovation.
