RSD15 is back with Mapping Mondays and Workshop Wednesdays every week to October 28. Sessions are led by facilitators from academia and practice and designed as spaces for two-way community knowledge exchange—bringing methods, questions, experiences, and emerging practices into active conversation.

Tuesday, October 29 is hosted by the Coordinated Management of Meaning Institute. This is a daylong, doors-open event with 30-minute conversations spanning a variety of fields, disciplines, and experiences. Each session applies a communication lens to a topic or case study—examining what we make in all we do and say.

Tuesday: Coordinated Management of Meaning

CMM sprints, perspectives
Don’t let this mouthful of big words stop you.

Coordinated Management of Meaning (CMM) is exactly what it sounds like; it posits that communication itself is a coordinated management of meaning, and that what is “going on” when we interact is a complex process of joint action that “makes” our social worlds. This social constructionist take on communicating is a stark (and important) deviation from the widely accepted transmission model of communication, which simply describes sending a message to a receiver (which may be accurate for radio waves, but it’s not quite the same for human beings).
The RSD15-Communications Perspectives day provides an opportunity to get a sense of the vast and diverse applications of the Coordinated Management of Meaning theory, and its practical sister, the Communication Perspective. Together, we will practice applying CMM as a lens across a variety of fields, disciplines, and experiences.

Bring your mug. Let's talk.

See the CMM editon of the SDA newsletter for more information, including a quick view of the agenda and time zone alignment.
Tuesday's CMM programme consists of a continuous series of 30-minute sessions. The following are the start and end times across 8 representative time zones.

Wednesday: Bring your curiousity

This week launches the RSD15 workshop series—another extraordinary series by designers, for designers. The annual workshops offer a distinctive opportunity to meet others across the systemic design community, try things out together, and encounter different ways of working with complexity. No two sessions are quite alike.

You are guided through an interactive discussion or a set of activities designed to explore, apply, or develop an idea. Organisers introduce a process, method, or concept, then create space for contribution, reflection, experimentation, and learning through doing.

Make your Wednesday a workshop day.
