This workshop introduces SystemicStories.AI (SS.AI), an emerging AI-enabled platform designed to support systemic design practice through the structured capture, transformation, and synthesis of lived and professional system narratives. The session positions storytelling not merely as qualitative input, but as a foundational medium for generating systemic representations, insights, and innovation pathways.
Participants engage interactively with SS.AI to experience how fragmented narratives—drawn from healthcare and broader socio-technical systems—can be transformed into multi-level system maps, revealing patterns of misalignment, fragmentation, and latent opportunity. The platform operationalises key principles of systemic design, including boundary critique, interdependency mapping, and multi-level system reasoning (Meadows, 2008; Checkland, 1999).
The workshop adopts a structured progression: from individual or group storytelling, to shared visualisation of system structures, to guided insight extraction, and finally to the co-creation of innovation possibilities. Participants work in small groups using the platform to explore a real or simulated system challenge, enabling them to experience how systemic insights emerge through iterative interaction with both data and visualisation.
This session demonstrates how AI can augment systemic design practice—not by replacing human sensemaking, but by enhancing the ability to see, synthesise, and act across complex systems. It also raises critical questions about the role of computational tools in systemic inquiry, including issues of interpretation, transparency, and governance.
Participants leave with practical exposure to a novel systemic design tool, a deeper understanding of narrative-based system modelling, and new approaches to structuring systemic innovation.
